Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States. This condition of the skin is characterized by cloggged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that can occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Acne commonly affects teenagers but a growing number of adults, especially women, have acne well into adulthood. Acne can even begin in the 3rd or 4th decade of life and beyond.
While not a life threatening condition, acne can be disfiguring and affect a person’s self-esteem.
Treating acne as early as possible is very important.
Without treatment, dark spots and permanent scars can appear on the skin as acne clears.
HOW CAN ACNE BE TREATED?
The appropriate treatment for acne depends on the type of acne and its severity. Treatment options may range from over-the-counter treatments, prescription medications to light therapy treatments and lasers such as Lumenis M22 IPL and 1064nm laser. Other services available at Prism Dermatology including facials, chemical peels, microneedling and ResurFx can be used to help treat your acne and acne scarring.
