KYBELLA®
KYBELLA® is a non-surgical treatment FDA approved for improving the appearance of submental fullness also known as “the double chin.” Kybella contains a naturally-occurring molecule called Deoxycholic acid which aids in destroying fat cells. This results is a reduction of submental fullness and an improved jawline and chin profile.
WHAT IS A DOUBLE CHIN?
The double chin is a common issue. The double chin is accumulation of excess fat beneath the chin. The presence of excess fat may be due to several factors including weight gain, aging or family genetics. The double chin can affect individuals who are not overweight. Nearly 7 out of 10 patients surveyed in a 2015 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) stated they are bothered by fat beneath their chin.
WHAT IS KYBELLA?
KYBELLA® is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Injection of KYBELLA® into the area beneath the chin selectively targets and destructs fat cells followed by absorption of the destroyed fat.
HOW IS KYBELLA ADMINISTERED?
Treatment can only be administered by a KYBELLA®-trained healthcare specialist. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
Each patient will receive a customized treatment plan based on their specific needs. Prior to injection with KYBELLA®, the treatment area is numbed with a topical numbing anesthetic. At each treatment of KYBELLA®, multiple small injections are placed into the areas of excess fat under your chin. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes to perform. After KYBELLA®, you will experience some swelling, bruising or numbness at the treatment site.
HOW MANY KYBELLA TREATMENT SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?
Since the KYBELLA® treatment is tailored to your specific needs, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Upon your consultation, our Board certified Dermatologist will determined how many treatment sessions are necessary to accomplish your personal goals. Typically, treatment sessions are spaced about a month apart and most patients will experience visible results within two to four treatment sessions. Once the desired response is achieved, no additional treatments will be required unless the submental fullness returns.
